Kickin it on the Katy

I took Jeff and Row Row for a walk on the Katy ;) Don't worry, they didn't make me push the stroller for too long. Good thing we got the burly model! The latest news on Row is that he is almost completely potty trained! He still has the occasional accident, but it's just so cool that he can make it through the night most of the time. Hey, it's a big deal in our world!
It has been so great to feel the weather warming up, and to see the world waking up from winter. I think I am getting more seasonally affected every year! Anyhow, the violets are blooming, and things are looking up. Finally got the garden tilled, and could really see a difference in the soil quality where I spread out compost and mulched last fall. Now I just have to figure out how to shoehorn everything that I want to grow into that little space!

Spring is almost here!

Finally, we are starting to see some signs of hope here in central Missouri! Above you see a pair of Eastern Bluebirds checking out Carol's nesting boxes. They have the sweetest little call, it isn't very loud. Below, you see Rowan giving the camera his cheesiest face. It has been a trying week for us, as he came down with a stomach bug. Just as we were starting to talk about taking him to the hospital, he turned the corner, whew! And now he's back to all his old tricks ;)

We went on a hike to the Mound with Joey, and as he was pulling on this little tree, it came right out of the ground!
Finally, these are the first flowers of the year in our yard, only about the size of a popcorn kernel. But they're flowers none the less! They are called speedwell, or veronica officinalis. Traditionally they were used as an astringent with diaphoretic (sweat inducing) and tonifying properties.
